Creating an account
Click on the "Sign Up" link.
Enter your personal information.
Create a password.
Choose a unique user name.
Type in the characters you see in the box, exactly how they appear.
Click "Continue".
Where do I start?
You can start by creating your personal profile. Once you have logged in click on 'profile' and add all the relevent information about yourself.
Other users who add you to their network will be able to see this profile, it represents you to other users.
Complete the information on the page and add some information about yourself it can be anything! Are you in need of help with an essay or deadline? Would you like to set up an online group for your area of study? Add anything you like?
Joining a group
To join a club, click on "Groups" in the top navigation bar once logged in.
You can browse through the clubs on this page or search for a specific group.
Forums
You can meet and talk to other members of Students and Academics about anything by using the forums section.
Creating a blog
Creating a blog is a great way to organise your life or study, you can also use it to get stuff off your chest and share thoughts with other members. Other members can give you feedback and offer advice. To browse, login to your account, click on "blogs". You will now be able to view blogs posted by members, browse through the blogs or search for a keyword by typing it into the search box on the left and searching.
You can create your own blog by clicking on the "my apps" then "blogs" link on your control panel, click on "compose new entry" to start your very own blog.
What is the control panel and how do I use it?
Once you have logged into your account you will have access to your own control panel, here you can:
- see what's new, user updates, friend requests, news stories, blogs, anything new or anything you have missed since your last login.
- view and edit your profile
- control your applications (blog, music, videos, events, chat, photos and groups)
- view your public or private messages
- see your friends, online and offline
- adjust your account settings
What is the human-edited directory?
The human edited directory is a comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors.
Members of 'Students and Academics' can use this search to help them find better, more trusted websites in searches.
What are the zones and what are they for?
There are three zones designed to help students and academics while studying.
The Red Zone is a list of subjects with hand picked links from the human edited directory to help with study.
The White Zone contains direct links to reference tools on websites and areas of the human edited directory.
The Blue Zone is a collection of links that can help with relaxation or time out from study.
